Many of you are wondering just how bad the air quality is. It's so sad to hear that the Beijing Olympics is getting so much negative publicity because of it. The stories about the athletes should be in the papers and not so much about how horrible some people think the air is.
Having lived through several months of terrible air quality due to the fires in CA, I can tell you that none of the days so far have been as bad as it's been in CA. Remember the Friday in which the sun and moon was glowing red? In June I had respiratory issues because of the fallout from the fires. The soot particles from the fires blocked out the blue sky for over 2 weeks. I haven't seen that here. It has rained a little bit and that certainly has helped, but even before it rained, I never felt as if I was going to have an asthma attack. I've been walking around the city everyday and not once did I feel like I couldn't breath well or that I had to stay indoors. I will be posting pictures tomorrow and you can be the judge.
The air quality isn't terrific, but it's not as bad as the media has been portraying. It's not ideal, but in my opinion, Los Angeles has worse air quality than Beijing has right now. I think that having only half the cars on the road at a time is really helping. I'll keep you posted about this issue. I hope that you can breath easier now.
