When I landed, I had to figure out how to get on the UP (Union Preston) train and was able to convince the very helpful volunteers at the TO2015 help desk to issue me a taxi voucher. My Press Ops greeter had been running late and wasn't there when I arrived. Nobody knew about the program I was participating in and I hadn't received my accreditation yet. Luckily my manager sent us very detailed information, which I had printed out, and this enabled me to get on the train without paying. It was a quick 25 minute ride.
The train was beautiful and there were many friendly faces to help me. I asked if one of the volunteers thought it was a nice form of transportation and she replied, "Honestly, I have never been on it. It is so new." They built it in anticipation of the Pan Am Games.
Here is the information pamphlet. I was probably the first one to read it.
It was a terrific way to get downtown. It enabled me to catch my breath and take in the sights.
This is a monitor on the train with the UP branding.
This was the Union Station. From here, I was able to flag a taxi and in about 10 mins. I was dropped at Pitman Hall. I checked in and got right to work.
