Getting around on public transportation

I have to take public transportation everywhere I go. In Whistler, unless you are a resident who has as a Sea to Sky pass, you have to take public transportation. No private cars are allowed. Only official Olympic vehicles are on the roads besides the buses. This adds at least 1.5 hours to the workday. If you miss a bus, it could take an hour more. The place that I am staying is in a great location. I only have a 5 minute bus ride to Lot 5, the bus to Whistler Olympic Park (WOP). This is where the ski jump, cross country skiing, and biathalon events are taking place. It takes about 45 minutes into the mountains to the valley where the competition occurs.

I have met many nice people on the bus. The first day, I had to ask for directions every step of the way. The Canadians are very helpful and kind. Today on the way down from WOP I sat next to a very nice man who said that, "He finally met an American he liked." We had a good laugh about that one. Of course he was just kidding, but nevertheless, I was honored. He shared many of his life stories. He could have played hockey in the 1952 Olympics, but instead choose to become an airline pilot and traveled all over the world. He is very involved in hockey here and has the job of setting up the cross country skiing start and finish line.

I look forward to meeting and talking to more people on public transportation.
